Who we are

Marine art in all its variety

From quiet tidal creeks to working ports, from traditional sailing vessels to the changing light on the coast, the Royal Society of Marine Artists brings together artists whose work is shaped by the sea.

Members work across painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and other media. The Society’s annual exhibition welcomes selected work by non-members alongside its elected artists.

A living tradition

Past and present

The Society grew from a group of artists drawn together by a shared interest in ships, coasts and the sea. Its heritage includes Charles Pears, Montague Dawson and other influential marine artists.

Today, the Society continues to champion marine art through its members and annual open exhibition.
